Friday marked the start of the championship in UK football and we had a tip for the first match between Sunderland and Derby. We had an uncharacteristic tip for the draw and also equally unusual, for the under 2.5 goal market. They turned out to be great selections as both won and the bet was successful at odds of 3.9.

There was a second pick for Shamrock Rovers to beat Derry City but Derry won 2-0. A double was advised on both of the above bets which was ultimately unsuccessful.

The email on Friday also included a very lengthy team by team preview of the French Ligue 1. Along with the daily picks, there was a selection for a Ligue 1 team to be relegated and 2 Championship teams to be promoted. These three won’t factor in our review as they’ll be settled long after our review is concluded.

One concern I’d like to point out is our tipster highlighting that the under 2.5 goals market for the Sunderland/Derby match had been backed heavily before the tips being posted. This worries me as it’s very likely that the price will have steamed in before we even received the tips and I expect that the bookies had moved the price and removed any positive value. We did make a profit for the day but is it sustainable if we’re placing bets that have already been widely backed?
