I believe we need a bit of clarification how this service works. In doing this I will refer to the full set of prices from today’s race. The email containing the selections is sent out early in the morning, for today’s race I received mine at 3:36am. This is ample time for UK nine ‘till fivers to pick the selections up and back them at the suggested price, not forgetting those Down Under getting home from work.
What you get is a list of the selections for one race a day. Since starting this review this has been any number between three and six. Alongside each selection is a price, called the Value Price, which is not a recognised Betfair set of odds, simply one that has been worked out by the author. This is then rounded down to the nearest Betfair odds and the bet is placed at that figure, whenever you decide to do so. I have backed them as soon as I have risen which very often is before 5am, which does give you prices that would not be available later in the day.
Quite often the price you are looking to back at (the rounded down price) is already above the Value Price so you can get an instant match at the higher price.
Under no circumstances is the Betfair Starting Price facility used to place bets. Okay, there very well could be occasions when the price matched is equal to the BSP, but that is pure coincidence. Take today’s winner, Island Legend, whose Value Price on the email was 10.49. That was rounded down to 10.00 and was taken up by Betfair well before the start of the race, but its BSP was 13.02.
All the rounded down Value Prices in this race were matched bar one, Fair Passion, whose value price was 8.96, rounded down to 8.9 and whose price at the off was 5.5, so it was cancelled upon suspension at the race start.
This gave us a winner at 10.00 (+9 points), three losing bets (-3 points) and one bet that lapsed. A gross profit of six points, but with 5% Betfair commission taken off = +5.70 points. Not a bad day’s work, increasing the winning run to six and giving us our highest total during this review.
