Golf Bet Profits – Week 9
15 March
Hi everybody,
Admin Gordon here.
I just wanted to say a few words regarding the continuation of this review. As you are no doubt aware, there have been some strong comments written in the last couple of days about the merits or otherwise of this review.
One of the main contentions was that as this was basically a once a week service, the review should have gone the full 12 weeks. Well, I have listened to that argument, accepted it, and the review of Golf Bet Profits will continue.
I also want to make it clear that Sgt John conducted the review totally in line with review policy, and as a result has had to endure some pretty harsh critisism, both on and off the blog. To his credit he has agreed to continue with the review.
I have for some time now, had it in mind to change the way in which we conduct our reviews, and consequently a new review policy has been issued. I wont bore you with the details here, they will published in both the BST and LTO newsletters, suffice to say it will be a major improvement to what we do, and will result in even better reviews for our readers.
Over to Sgt John for week 9 of Golf Bet Profits.
Hi Bloggers,
This week we covered the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Doral, Florida and early news that our second bet, Bubba Watson, had pulled out through injury. First round leaders Hunter Mahan (64), Ryo Ishikawa (65) and Martin Kaymer (66) could not maintain their progress in later rounds with only Mahan finishing in the top ten. The three Japanese players in the field all struggled with news of the devastating earthquake at home. Our top selection, Dustin Johnson, returned a respectable 69 while Justin Rose turned in a shocker 77.
Round Two saw Mahan (135), Francesco Molinari (136), Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney (137) fighting it out with Johnson a stroke behind. It was at this stage that the three points invested on Bubba Watson was used to back Watney to win the competition. He had been playing well, although a shade unlucky, but the 10/1 odds seemed massive value and too good to miss.
By Round Three Johnson had posted a seven under par 65 to go top with 203 and Watney close behind on 205 along with Kuchar and Padraig Harrington to tie for second place.
The final round and Johnson opened with a birdie and went 12 straight pars before his next one, a fairway bunker shot that hit the flag and settled two feet away on the 14th. But he came undone on the 16th, going bunker-to-bunker for a bogey at the worst possible time. Nick Watney had every reason to see nothing but trouble as he stood on the 18th tee, a tough tee shot in any circumstance, let alone with a World Golf Championship on the line. He belted his tee shot down the middle, fired an 8-iron over the corner of the lake and sank a 12-foot birdie putt for a two-shot victory over Dustin Johnson. Johnson hit a 9-iron that covered the flag and settled eight feet away. Typical of his final round, he missed it and shot 71. Justin Rose finished on 289 and tied for 42nd place.
Most important of all, these successes gave the profits a large boost and back into profit with just over 53 points profit. As a result these reviews will continue until 12 weeks are completed to give a better long-term view of the service.
