Today I decided to truly test the methodology of the system by waiting for the selections’ email and placing the bets straight away. There was always going to be a difference between the published results on the site and any punter’s results due to the time they placed the bets and the fluctuation on Betfair, but I was determined to investigate first hand.
The email arrived at 2:35am and I backed the five selections straight away, getting better prices than being asked for on four of the horses, with one not being matched at that time. This one was Buaiteoir, who needed to be 7.8, but was trading at 5.6 at the time. During the morning one horse dropped out and a quick visit to the email to enter the non-runner gave an automatic reduction in asking prices for our selections, with Buaiteoir now needing to be 7.0.
Buaiteoir went on to win, being matched just before the off at 7.0, another success recorded and with my pocket jangling from a 2.85 point win after taking off Betfair’s commission. Not quite a fish supper but with the satisfaction that it was worth the effort to see ‘hands on’ how it all really worked. The resultant profit would have just the same no matter when they were backed.
