Golf Bet Profits – Week 6 21 February
Nothing but bad news to record on this weekend’s golf action with another complete loss of points, this time with additional defeats.
Anthony Wall did not lie better than joint 36th place after his two under par first round, while TetSuji Hiratsuka fought his way back from joint 74th in his first round to finish level with Wall in 57th place. Each player received €4,950.
The other selection in the European Tour (in India), Rikard Karlberg, was the best of these and started with two rounds of 69 which put him in joint tenth place, but rounds of 73 and 74 relegated him to joint 41st and prize money of €10,800.
Luke Donald started quite well in the Northern Trust Open with a first round of 68, three under par. His eight over par in the second round really put paid to his chances and he missed the cut for the third round.
Paul Casey started with a par first round then hit a 67 in the second to put him in joint 11th place. He went two over in the third round but pulled back in the last to finish joint 12th and prize money of $112,667.
There was an additional bet of a one-point 25/1 double involving Wall and Donald who turned out to be the worst placed of our weekend’s selections.
On Sunday morning members received an email advising a bet on Kevin Na in the last round of the Northern Trust Open which read:
Kevin Na is one off the lead and looks exceptional value. I don’t fancy Couples or Vj Singh (sic) and favourite Baddely (sic) has a history of last round flops. Na has shown in the past he can play well in high pressure like tonight.
The Couples advice was spot on but unfortunately Na could only make par while Singh and Baddeley both scored two under, the latter winning the competition by two strokes.
Now I am willing to receive flak over this but this last bet does smack of chasing losses, something any well trained punter would never do. Already facing a certain of a loss of 12 points (the best-placed player, Casey, had to score 65 in the last round, something no player did in this competition, just to get in the frame) I would have walked away and moved on to next week’s challenge.
It is very easy to make expert decisions after the event but the final analysis is that the service lost 17 points this week.
