This is a further continuation of reports on the Golf Bet Profits results.
Week 24 – Competitions covered this week were the BMW International in Munich and the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut. There was a straight win bet on Martin Kaymer in Germany, an each-way punt on Paul Casey and a 72-hole matchbet for Paul Lawrie to beat Graeme Storm. Best finisher was Kaymer who managed a tie in 18th, Casey missed the cut and Storm beat Lawrie by five strokes. There were two each-way bets and a matchbet in the USA where Padraig Harrington tied in 63rd place, Vijay Singh tied on 43rd and Jim Furyk missed the cut to give Fredrik Jacobson the matchbet. A late three-point bet on Bryce Molder to win was offered, but he returned his worst round to tie in sixth so no points in either competition. A loss of 23 points on Week 24 – overall a loss of 16.03 points.
Week 25 – This week we were at the French Open in Paris and the AT & T National in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. There were no successes in either competition this week with three players missing the cut, top pick Matteo Mannasero tying in 30th in Paris and Robert Garrigus finishing in joint 20th in the USA. An extra each-way bet on Adam Scott in the AT & T saw him finish joint third with two others, but the division of the return from the bookies showed a loss of 1.67 points to add to the ten points already lost on the main investments. A loss of 11.67 points on Week 25 – overall a loss of 27.70 points.
Week 26 – The Barclays Open in Inverness was covered this week with torrential rain forcing the organisers to curtail the competition to three rounds. Graeme McDowell was tying in first place following the second round, but a poor final round dropped him to joint 42nd. Gregory Havret missed the cut but George Coetzee, who was tying in third place after the first round, went on to retain that place and made 5.91 much-needed points. A matchbet was won by McDowell over Phil Mickelson by two strokes for another 4.55 points but there was no joy from the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Bryce Molder finished joint 30th, John Merrick 59th and Paul Goydos missed the cut. An extra bet on Brendon de Jonge, to combat Steve Stricker’s challenge, failed when the Zimbabwean returned an awful last round to tie in seventh. A loss of 1.54 points on Week 26 – overall a loss of 29.24 points.
Total loss carried forward after 26 weeks = 29.24
Only the last week returned any profits during this period and those were swallowed up by losses on the other golfers. It is the Open Championship at Sandwich this week and profits really must be found to chip away at the loss total to date.
